What ArborGen calls “The Silly Season”

For us, that would be our lifting and packing season. Starting in the fall, the first Monday after Thanksgiving at the end of November through mid-February, we begin the time sensitive task of getting seedlings out of the ground and to our customers as quickly as possible.

We set February 15 every year as our target date to have all of the trees out of the ground. After that date the days start getting a little longer and it starts warming up. The trees will start breaking dormancy toward the end of February.  To get the entire crop lifted we have to lift an average of 1.5 million seedlings a day.  With a good crew and good conditions, we can lift 1.5 million in an 8-10 hour day.
